Obesity has increased dramatic in the last 25 years in the UK, it is estimated that around 30,000 people will die this year. By 2010 more than 6.6 million men and 6 million women will be classed as obese, that’s 20% of all men and 25% of all women in the UK. This makes shocking reading. Where did it all start to go wrong?
There are several factors involved in becoming obese, this condition does not happen straight away, you don’t just wake up in the morning and you are obese. One factor is, as a child did you have a regular diet or eating pattern, did it include fruit and vegetables? Were you encouraged to have regular exercise, all these have a bearing on your body in later life.
What can be done to reduce your weight? There are a number of options, diet, local gym, and diet pills. Surgery is the procedure that many obese people take, a gastric band is one option this is fitted around the top of the stomach, this limit’s the amount of food allowed to be taken, as with all surgery there is a strict regime that has to be followed.
This not a quick fix option and it involves many sectors of the health service, these have to spoken over with your doctor. After surgery many patients will see the results straight away, around 80% will lose there type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure in as much of 50% of cases will also go.
Weight loss surgery is only one step in a long road to recovery, a total change of lifestyle and eating habits is the desired long term solution.
