Clothes starting to get a bit tight around the middle, having to squeezing into your favourite pair of jeans, friends and family dropping hints that you might be putting on some weight? Well you are not alone, the number of people with weight problems has tripled in resent years. We live in a society where we are constantly being reminded that we are “hungry”, so what can be done to help?
Some people have become addicted to losing weight and spend thousands of pounds on a gym membership, attending classes in weight training, spinning and cardio vascular wellbeing - that’s all fine, and good luck to them! But what about people like me? Working all day then home to the wife and 2 kids, below the age of 7, when have I got time to visit a gym?
What if I had time to go to the gym?
Just had a look at some of the local prices for gym membership they start from £30 per month, that’s fine but I have to travel into town and then try and find a parking space again more money. The local sports centre was my best bet, just down the road, brilliant … then you get there and find out they have 6 bikes, 3 rowing machines, some weights and running machines … great, go down get changed looking good already, open the door and surprise, surprise - 200 people all waiting to use the machines. So my quick 20 minutes to the gym has now turned into a 2 hour wait.
So what’s next, with overweight come a number of serious issues, heart conditions, back and leg problems, high blood pressure and stress. When you look at it the outcome looks bleak. With the credit crunch comes the extra worry of lack of work, job losses, again adding to high stress levels and the bills still have to be paid.
What can be done?
Weight loss doesn’t have to be expensive, instead of sitting down and watching the NEWS or turning on the computer to check on your favourite social networking site, put a jacket on and take the kids or the dog down the park, just a simple walk to start, over the next few months you will find yourself kicking a ball or even throwing a Frisbee. Doing this little exercise will not only benefit you but your whole family. Being positive is what makes the difference!
