Being Overweight is Killing You Slowly

We all love going out for dinner, indulging ourselves in food luxuries such as 16oz steaks, chips, onion rings and don’t forget the chocolate pudding - all great food, if enjoyed now and again. In recent times more and more people have ditched the home made cooked dinner in favour of the takeaway. This has now caused the UK to have the highest percentage of obese people in Europe. With nearly 55% of the population being overweight or obese the cost to the NHS is spiralling out of control, experts predict it could £45billion by the year 2050.

Something has to be done to reduce this number. The Government has now set up a special team to tackle obesity in the UK. We will look at some of the facts of being overweight or obese.

Obesity kills! Did you know that an estimated 300,000 people will die due to being obese.

Women gaining more than 20pounds from the age of 18 to 35 are more than double the risk of getting postmenopausal breast cancer. High blood pressure is twice as common in adults with weight problems.
Osteoarthritis, with all the extra weight on your joints this is now a common problem in the UK.

Type 2 Diabetes, again this is very common in people that are obese, the good news is that once you lose weight in many cases this problem disappears.

That’s not including liver disease, colon disease, hypertension, lower back pain, heart disease and stroke. Again the good news is that some of the problems can be rectified by proper weight loss control and exercise programs.
