In today’s society there is added pressure to be a certain weight and look a certain way, but to what lengths will some people go to? Diets, surgery and horse drugs! that’s right horse drugs. Clenbuterol, beta-2-adrenergic receptor agonist is a drug that is used to treat asthma in horses, this is now available on the internet, it is sold to help body-builders with weight loss and keep muscle definition.
Recently it has been mentioned in Hollywood that models and ‘Hollywood types’ were taken this drug to help them loose weight. Rarely mentioned are the side affects to the nervous system, people that have taken this drug would just start to shake, their skin would begin to get very clammy and their eyes would start to twitch for no reason. Chest pains, cramps and increased blood pressure, this drug also makes you heart beat faster and there is evidence that it can stiffen the heart muscle causing fibrosis of the surrounding tissue, theses are only a few of the side affects.
This drug is illegal in the UK and most of Europe not only for humans but for any animal that is likely to enter the food chain. In Spain in 1994 140 people were taken to hospital from Clenbuterol poisoning they all suffered from shakes, dizziness, and breathing difficulties. Only last year in China 336 people were hospitalised with the same symptoms, China has now banned Clenbuterol from its country. If you do take these drugs you will do harm to your body, one thing to remember is that if you do not change your lifestyle once you come off this drug you will put all your weight back on.
